Opening Doors welcomes the apology to LGBTQ+ veterans by Rishi Sunak and the Government. It is a significant first step in addressing the historic hurt that many LGBTQ+ veterans feel. We would like to pay tribute to the thousands of LGBTQ+ veterans, the majority of whom are over 50, who experienced so much cruelty under the pre-2000 ban on homosexuality in the Armed Forces. We thank them for their perseverance and to @fightingwpride for their unwavering commitment to the community.

Opening Doors has been named within Lord Etherton’s Report as an organisation that can support the Armed Forces and connected charities to be more supportive and inclusive of LGBTQ+ Veterans and we are committed to working in partnership to improve lives.
