Opening Doors has a commitment to ensuring that the voices of LGBTQ+ people over 50 are heard – by both service providers and policy makers. Our Ambassador programme is about supporting members to use their skills and experience to do this.

Opening Doors Ambassadors are LGBTQ+ people over 50 who want to volunteer with us and are confident about talking about the needs and experiences of LGBTQ+ over 50. Our Ambassadors make a significant contribution to the external representation and influence of ODL, and in doing so to amplifying the voices of LGBTQ+ people over 50 in policy, research and the media. 

We are currently recruiting for Volunteer Ambassadors, to support this work. 

We are looking for Ambassadors to undertake the following:

• Promote Opening Doors at events and panels
• Engage with professionals in Health and Social care, and local Councils about the issues faces by LGBTQ+ people over 50
• Train as volunteer Trainers and/or provide support to our training team by attending training sessions
• Spread the word about our work and issues affecting LGBTQ+ people over 50 – both within the LGBTQ+ communities and mainstream organisations
• Assist with Opening Doors stalls at various events

We will need people to:

• Become familiar with the work of Opening Doors
• In consultation with Opening Doors staff team, research organisations which welcome outside speakers at meetings, events, panels, AGMs, research groups etc
• Take on talks which are booked directly through Opening Doors
• Deliver talks which engage and motivate various audiences
• Adapt talks to include new messages or time-specific information as communicated by the Communications Officer
• Make sure all donations, fundraising and volunteering queries are passed back to Opening Doors team promptly for follow-up
• Keep abreast of the activities of fellow Opening Doors Ambassadors by attending our bi-monthly Ambassador Forums
• Provide feedback on outcomes of the events for Opening Doors records

Requirements

All Ambassadors need to identify as LGBTQ+ and be 50 or over.  They are required to keep abreast of the activities of fellow Opening Doors Ambassadors by attending our bi-monthly Ambassador Forum, in addition to any relevant inductions and training.
