The Memory Café offers a supportive and friendly online environment for anyone from the LGBTQ communities who has concerns about their memory, who is living with dementia or is caring for someone with memory problems. The groups will provide information, an opportunity to chat as well as social activities and occasional guest speakers.

This events utilize the skills of two volunteers in addition to an existing sessional worker who will be main lead with the group.

What you'll be doing

Our events and activities volunteers have taken part in a range of duties including:

  • Meeting and greeting members, and socializing with other members
  • Ensuring new members feel comfortable and helping them integrate
  • Help to sign in members, provide information about ODL activities, sign up new members when necessary
  • Set up and take down of spaces (Note: for face-to-face activities)

There is no requirement for a volunteer to have experience of working with people with memory impairment as they will be given a dementia awareness session before beginning active volunteering, and ongoing support.

***Since the first lockdown in March all of our groups and most of our activities have been held online.  The few activities we have been able to arrange between the lockdowns have strictly observed social distancing guidelines.  Although we are currently unable to hold our face-to-face social events and activities, we welcome volunteers to help us run our online events.***
