Opening Doors is appalled at the way the UK Government has failed to support, and has actively undermined, support for trans people in the UK. The Government has failed to keep its promise to ban ‘conversion practice’ for trans and non-binary people.

In addition to this, the Government appointed Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has published new guidance that effectively gives advice to services providers who want to or operate a single-sex service on how to exclude trans and non-binary people from accessing services. We believe that this advice contravenes both the spirit and the letter of the Equality Act 2010.

These actions taken by the Government to support the exclusion of and discrimination against trans and non-binary people are not only unlawful, but morally wrong and puts lives at risk. We stand in solidarity with our trans and non-binary siblings and will fight collectively.

We encourage everyone to email their MPs and express their outrage at how the Government and EHRC are treating trans and non-binary people.
