News and stories Dr Michael Brady to deliver keynote at ODL and THT conference on LGBT+ People's Health in Later Life The increasing interest in LGBT+ health issues, and the health and care of older LGBT+ people in particular, has led to some fantastic opportunities for ODL to spread the word about our work recently. In May, our Director Alice Wallace was excited to speak alongside the government’s newly-appointed National Adviser on LGBT Health, Dr Michael Brady, at the Pink News Summit on LGBT+ Ageing. We are now thrilled to share the news that on the eve of Pride in London 2019 Dr Brady will be taking part in an event convened by ODL together with Terence Higgins Trust (THT). His keynote lecture at our half-day conference on LGBT+ People’s Health in Later Life will outline his new role and his service development priorities. Full details are below. As LGBT+ communities celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising and the birth of the Pride movement, it feels very apt to focus on the care and support of older LGBT+ people who are the generation that launched the struggle for equality. ODL and THT are inviting practitioners who support LGBT+ over-50s to join Dr Brady and other leaders in the fields of health and social care to discuss findings from the latest research into health inequalities of older LGBT+ people, which include Pink News’ research report, The Needs of Older People in Later Life, and Raising the Equality Flag; Health Inequalities Among Older LGBT People in the UK – a joint report by University College London, ILC and Cardiff University.
